The Sokoto State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Ahmad Ladan Ala, has commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto for prioritising the education sector and supporting initiatives aimed at equipping students and teachers with modern digital skills.
The Commissioner made the remarks while declaring open a five day Digital Literacy Skills Step down Training for 300 secondary school teachers drawn from the 23 Local Government Areas of the state. He was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Sanusi Aliyu Binji.

Prof. Ala described digital literacy as an essential skill in today's world, noting that the training would make teaching and learning easier, faster, and more effective across the state.

He also applauded the Sokoto State AGILE Project Coordinator, Dr. Mansur Isa Buhari, and the AGILE team for their outstanding performance in implementing projects that have positively impacted the education sector, including the provision of school infrastructure, boreholes, and other critical facilities.

Speaking at the event, the Sokoto State AGILE Project Coordinator, Dr. Mansur Isa Buhari, disclosed that the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project plans to procure  2,500 computers for 100 secondary schools across Sokoto State.

Dr. Buhari further revealed that the project would provide one year of free internet connectivity to all benefiting schools as part of efforts to enhance digital learning and bridge the technology gap among students and teachers.

According to him, the initiative is designed to position Sokoto State at the forefront of the ongoing digital revolution by exposing both students and teachers to critical digital skills, including the ethical use of social media and other modern digital learning platforms.

We have developed appropriate training modules and engaged competent resource persons to ensure the success of the programme, he said.

He explained that the initiative seeks to expose students to digital technology from Senior Secondary School One (SSS I), enabling them to acquire relevant skills at an early stage.

As part of the programme, participants will also be trained on how to sustain the initiative and explore ways of complementing government funding to ensure its long term success, he added.

Dr. Buhari noted that AGILE is a World Bank supported programme implemented by the Federal Ministry of Education in partnership with state governments.

The project focuses on removing barriers that prevent adolescent girls from accessing and completing secondary education.

He explained that AGILE supports the construction and renovation of schools, provision of scholarships and learning materials, promotion of life skills and digital literacy, and strengthening of teaching quality through continuous capacity building for teachers and school administrators.

The Project Coordinator stated that the programme is fully owned by the Sokoto State Government through the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.

He commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto for his commitment to digital transformation and educational development in the state.

Also speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of the State Teachers' Service Board, Prof. Mustapha Tukur Namakka, said the administration of Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto has continued to implement policies and programmes aimed at revitalising the education sector.
