ZAMFARA POLICE NEUTRALISE NOTORIOUS BANDIT LEADER, ARREST THREE SUSPECTS, RECOVER ARMS AND MOTORCYCLES

The Zamfara State Police Command has recorded another significant breakthrough in its ongoing fight against banditry and other violent crimes across the state.

On 9th June 2026, at about 1830 hours, operatives of the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU), led by CSP Usman Halilu Modibbo, Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Bukkuyum Division, carried out a coordinated anti-banditry operation in several villages following credible intelligence that armed bandits were sighted around the outskirts of Birisawa, Gummi Local Government Area.

Upon arrival at the location, the police team encountered the armed criminals and engaged them in a fierce gun battle. During the operation, the bandits' leader was neutralised, while three suspects were arrested. Several other members of the gang escaped into a nearby forest with varying degrees of gunshot injuries.
The operatives subsequently destroyed the bandits' camp and successfully recovered five motorcycles and three firearms. This forms part of the Command's sustained efforts to deny criminal elements safe havens from which to perpetrate their unlawful activities.

Efforts are currently ongoing to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects.

The Zamfara State Police Command remains committed to sustaining aggressive operations against criminal elements and ensuring the safety and security of all residents of the state.
