NUJ SOKOTO TO HOLD MONTHLY CONGRESS


The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Sokoto State Council, will hold its monthly Congress on Saturday, 19th September, 2026 at the NUJ Press Centre, Zuru Road, Sokoto by 9:00 a.m. prompt.

The Congress will focus on the theme: “Journalism and Political Campaigns: Between Public Interest and Political Influence.”

The Guest Lecturer for the occasion is Professor Tanko Yahaya Baba of the Department of Political Science, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.

The Congress is expected to bring together journalists and media practitioners to examine the role of journalism in democratic governance, particularly as Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections.

Discussions will centre on the need for journalists to uphold professionalism, editorial independence, fairness, accuracy and public interest while reporting political activities and campaigns.

The Council has also invited the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Sokoto State, Hon. Sambo Bello Danchadi, as the Special Guest of Honour.

The Chairman of NUJ Sokoto State Council, *Comrade Usman Mohammed Binji*, has urged members of the Union and other stakeholders in the media sector to participate actively in the Congress, describing it as an important platform for professional reflection and capacity building.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto Approves Tour Of Completed And  Ongoing Projects  The Governor of Sokoto State, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, has graciously approved a comprehensive Project Tour to be undertaken by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Sokoto State Council, across selected local government areas of the state. The week-long exercise is designed to enable journalists to assess, document, and report on completed and ongoing projects executed under the present administration as part of efforts to promote transparency and public awareness of government achievements.
