SULTAN URGES TRADITIONAL LEADERS TO REMAIN  NEUTRAL IN POLITICS
From Aminu Ibrahim Maru

The Sultan of Sokoto  Alhaji Muhamnad Sa'ad Abubakar has urged the traditional  leaders to remain neutral and treat all political actors equally across the nation.

He made the statement in a meeting  with  the district heads at his Palace in Sokoto recently.
He stressed that traditional leaders are always fathers to all and must therefore avoid actions or affiliations capable of creating division among their subjects.

Also he called on them to remain security-conscious and promptly alert relevant authorities to developments that could threaten peace and stability within their domains.

At the meeting, the Commander of the Sokoto State Hisbah Board, Malam Usman Jatau, briefed the  Sultanate on the board’s efforts to address social challenges, particularly extravagance associated with wedding ceremonies and other forms of immorality in the state  .
Malam Jatau called for greater support from traditional institutions in promoting modesty, responsible social conduct and the preservation of moral values within communities.

Also at the palace, the Director of the National Population Commission, Sokoto State Office, Sani Ladan Dogondaji, alongside UNICEF representatives, sensitised the District Heads on the importance of birth and death registration.

They highlighted the role of accurate vital registration in strengthening planning, access to social services, legal identity and evidence-based development.
The officials urged the District Heads to take the message to their respective domains and encourage families to register births and deaths records promptly.
